Because you really can save 30 – 50% on heating costs in your traditional or heritage house! Now that I have your attention, this workshop may be for you!

The whole energy efficiency agenda may seem a bit daunting if you are a traditional or heritage home owner, when in fact there are plenty of steps you can take with no or very low risk to the character and health of the building, which do not require expertise or huge amounts of money.

This workshop will take a low-tech common-sense approach to stopping drafts, and in-turn save on energy consumption, without any, newfangled, new-and-improved, buy-it-now products.  Dr. Cooper will tackle the most common issues that make an older home feel uncomfortable during the long winter months.

Curriculum:

Topics will include:

  • Keeping rising damp in check, help your old house to breathe the way it was intended to.
  • Save on energy loss through your roof, with best practices to ventilate and insulate.
  • Best insulation materials, and all the do’s and don’ts.
  • Save on energy loss through drafts, where and when to caulk.
  • Save on energy loss through your windows, wood storms and weatherstripping.
  • Weatherstripping exterior wood doors.
  • Heating system tune-up, and best heating systems.
  • Thermostats, and energy efficient lighting.
  • Best practices to insulating vertical walls in a heritage home.
  • Best practices to insulating a foundation wall.
